Being a caregiver is rewarding, discouraging, exciting, tear-filled, wonderful and tough. NuevaCare caregivers in the San Francisco Bay Area know what it’s like to serve senior citizens and to feel the joy (and pain) of helping them. This quote seems appropriate…
“I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.” – Mother Teresa
Helping the San Francisco Bay Area CaregiverWith that being said, it’s very important to make sure that the caregivers in your life have a supportive community of encouragers…and you can be a part! Your senior’s well-being is important and will benefit from ensuring that his or her caregiver is taken care of as well. Here’s some ideas:
- Hand-Written Notes – Buy a thoughtful Hallmark card and write a note saying how much you appreciate your senior’s assistant. Or, find a funny card that will bring a smile!
- Flowers – A beautiful bouquet of flowers would brighten anyone’s day and the lovely smell will linger throughout the home.
- Gift Cards – Another way to encourage your senior’s San Francisco Bay Area caregiver is by purchasing a gift card or two. Serving others is a labor of love and, if your senior’s caregiver is assisting with meal preparation, a gift card to a local restaurant could be a big encouragement. After all, making meals is hard work, especially if you have to make them for multiple people! Or, give a gift card to a local car wash…a car wash and waxing would be a practical, thoughtful gift.
- Time – Another way to lighten the load of a caregiver is by checking in on your senior if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Be careful not to encroach on what the aide is doing, but if you can help by cleaning up the home, taking out the trash or by scheduling some home maintenance if needed, that could be a big help. Talk to your senior’s aide first to see if he or she would like any assistance.
Anyway, don’t forget the time and energy your senior’s caregiver puts into serving each day. Your NuevaCare caregiver will really appreciate that you care!
